All distances are moderately shortened to enhance the racer's experience 

NOTICE:  the order of events start with the youngest age group to the adult

Swim: tykes & trikes 6 yrs. to 12 yrs.  standing in water start by lifeguard chair--swim across Guard & rope line to 
turn buoy--LEFT TURN--around buoy--swim/walk to shore.  IN WATER SWIM MARSHALS
1/2 loop tykes & trikes:  1 loop 6 & 7 yrs.    2 loops 8 & 9 yrs.     3 loops 10 to 12 yrs.

OUT & BACK SWIM:  standing beach start--run/walk out to the left---the dive platform will be on your right--
right turn around Kayak #1--travel cross lake (20m) to Kayak #2--right turn around KAYAK #2--return to standing beach start--
run around beach buoy--repeat course.  This course has 1/2 distance in what you would consider shallow water & less than 1/2 of 
deep water!  This lake is surrounded by rock walls on 2 sides: it is similar to an outdoor pool--the out & in course offers breath recovery before starting another loop!  flotation belts & personal swim assistants are available for you!

BIKE: stays inside the PINAWA TOWN --leave transition area on Willis--marshal cyclists provide course leads for each & every age group!

13 & 14 yrs.          past first point--continue on trail past canoes to --travel past marked traffic cone--directly up rock hill--down rock 
                               hill--turn RIGHT to point--travel past traffic cone---turn right on trail---turn LEFT at Willis--travel across public                                         launch area towards permanent port-a-toilet--continue on trail with wpg. river on left/Willis on right---                                                   left turnaround marked traffic cone (near small public dock & permanent table)--return on same course to finish

3k open water swim:  lead kayaks/stationed kayaks will keep you on swim course:
deep treading water start by 1st dock:   turn left, proceed along shore--keep 1st yellow buoy on your right--look for next yellow buoy directly ahead towards the middle of Wpg. river channel--turn right at yellow buoy--proceed to next yellow buoy in middle of Wpg. river channel--swim directly ahead to your next yellow buoy for a right turn into the original start--turn right around yellow buoy at dock --repeat swim course -- exit is marked beside the boat launch--proceed to cross marked FINISH LINE!

Ultra Challenge: cross marked finish line after 3 k swim--stay on blue carpet pass the rowing club to your transition area--
mount -- exit towards water plant road--turn LEFT on grass proceeding directly towards Burger Boat--turn left onto IRONWOOD TRAIL--proceed along river trail--crossing Pinawa Campground road--stay on marked Ironwood trail--crossing Chambers road--proceed on marked Ironwood trail--carrying on pass the public maintenance yard to your right--the trail is now enclosed by trees on each side--proceed to 7.5 k marked turn around--give your number to race worker--return on same trail to the original transition area behind the rowing club big doors--give your number to transition worker--proceed to marked run course--
watch out for low hanging branch--pass in front of water treatment plant--stay on IRONWOOD TRAIL--1K is by the public boat launch--turn right stay on trail--turn left up small hill towards Willis road--stay on Ironwood trail--look to your right--keep canoes stored on shore to your left--proceed pass public Pinawa beach on your right--travel straight to the golf course parking lot--TURN RIGHT BEFORE parking lot--travel on the sand directly to the point surrounded by water---turn around marker--give number to race worker--return on same trail to FINISH LINE

Ultra Duathlon:  start line by Finish line--proceed directly in front of rowing club front door --watch out for low hanging branch--pass directly in front of water plant--follow run course description as set out for Ultra Challenge--return to transition area BEHIND THE ROWING CLUB--proceed on bike course as described in the Ultra Challenge---return to transition area--leave through run chute in transition area--repeat same 4k run course--return to FINISH LINE!

Ultra Aquathlon:  follow 3k open water swim--proceed through finish line to transition area to marked aquathlon area--begin run through transition run chute--follow Ultra run course description.

1500m open water swim:  follow 3 k open water swim directions --ONLY ONE LOOP!

Super Challenge DUATHLON: start by finish line--proceed directly in front of rowing club--watch out for low hanging branch--proceed on IRONWOOD trail as previously described---TURN LEFT at DUATHLON TURN AROUND BY PORT-A-TOILET AND  PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCH--return on same trail--entering transition area by run chute to bike--follow bike course description as set out for ultra, super turnaround--return on same trail--to transition area behind rowing club building--return bike--depart through transition run chute to previously described run course--stay on run course until the turn around sign at 1.5k at the Pinawa Beach Public washroom building--return on the same trail to the FINISH LINE!

Super Aquathlon: follow Ultra Challenge run course description!

750m open water swim:  deep treading water start by 1st dock--turn left--proceed along shore to 1st yellow buoy--TURN RIGHT-- towards middle of the Wpg. River Channel--to next yellow buoy--turn right--proceed to next yellow buoy--TURN RIGHT--PROCEED  to original start--exit swim course by boat launch--proceed to FINISH LINE!

Pinawa Challenge: finish open water swim--proceed directly in front of rowing club to transition area--take bike to behind water treatment plant--turn left--proceed to Burger Boat on grass area--cross campground road--travel on IRONWOOD TRAIL as previously described to 5 k turnaround by Chambers & Ironwood trail--give number to race worker--return on same trail to transition area--depart through transition run chute to previously described run course--stay on run course until the turn around sign at the Pinawa Public Beach Washroom sign--return on same course to FINISH LINE.

Super Aquathlon: finish 750 m open water swim--proceed through the finish line --to transition area--proceed through run chute onto IRONWOOD TRAIL--watching out for low overhanging branch--stay on trail until turnaround at the port-a-toilet at the public boat launch--return on same course to FINISH LINE! 

400m open water swim: deep treading water start by 1st dock--turn left proceed to kayak/race marker--turn right--RETURN ON SAME COURSE--along shore to exit swim course by boat launch--proceed to FINISH LINE!

LIGHT CHALLENGE: finish open water swim--proceed directly in front of rowing club to transition area--take bike to behind water treatment plant--turn left--proceed to Burger Boat on grass area--stay on IRONWOOD TRAIL--until turnaround at the PINAWA CAMPGROUND ROAD--give number to race worker--return on same trail to transition area--depart through transition run chute to previously described run course--stay on run course until the turn around sign at port-a-toilet at the public boat launch--return on same course to FINISH LINE!


Free Spirit

transition located on Willis: between Vanier & Pinawa Rowing Club entrance

swim:  check out the swim course visually by traveling on Willis ave. or the Ironwood trail

Olympic: treading water start--left turn--travel along shoreline to first yellow buoy---keep yellow buoy on your right--continue straight to next yellow buoy with shore line on your left--RIGHT TURN AT YELLOW BUOY (furthest buoy on river)--traveling back towards yellow buoy in middle of the Wpg. River -- keep it on your right--- travel straight ahead to the LAST YELLOW RIGHT TURN AROUND BUOY--STRONG sharp right turn to SWIM EXIT--continuously check line of travel!

Sprint: treading water start--left turn--travel along shoreline to first yellow buoy--RIGHT TURN around yellow buoy towards the middle of the Wpg. River waterway---travel straight OUT in river to RIGHT TURN yellow buoy--travel straight ahead to the LAST RIGHT YELLOW TURN--STRONG sharp right turn to SWIM EXIT --continuously check line of travel!

TRY-A-TRI:  treading water start--left turn--travel with shoreline on your left--RIGHT TURN around DESIGNED MARKED KAYAK--
RETURN to SWIM EXIT--with shoreline on your right--continuously check line of travel!

 

BIKE:   relay teams exchange team timing chip band at cyclist's transition location!

Olympic:  turn right on Vanier--travel 1 k to LEFT TURN on #211 (HIGHWAY)--proceed west aprox. 8 k--SHARP RIGHT TURN at AECL corner (Meredian Way)--travel 2.5 k to LEFT TURNAROUND --travel back to RIGHT TURN on #211--use the yield portion of road--double check traffic--travel west over Wpg. river bridge towards turnaround near #11 highway--travel DIRECTLY back to Pinawa--using east #211--turn RIGHT ON ABERDEEN ---TRAVEL a moderate fast down hill--TURN LEFT AT WILLIS & ABERDEEN--TRAVEL moderate up & down to return to bike finish.

Sprint: same as described above--travel to marked SPRINT turnaround on #211--return on ABERDEEN--

Try-a-tri:    turn right on Vanier--travel 1 k to left turn on #211 (HIGHWAY)--proceed west aprox. 1 k--traffic check--TURN LEFT FROM #211 ONTO ABERDEEN AVE.--travel a moderate fast down hill--TURN LEFT AT WILLIS & ABERDEEN--TRAVEL moderate up & down to return to bike finish!

Run:  use of Ironwood trail--Willis Ave.---Burrows Ave. (parts of course closed to traffic)  finish line to be determined!
IT IS A CIRCUIT COURSE--all course areas are visible at all times to runners--return is Willis (wpg. river on your left)

Olympic:  exit transition turn right towards water treatment plant (water station on left--port-a-toilets on right)--narrow LEFT turn onto Ironwood trail--proceed 1 k to boat launch area--travel to arrows indicating right turn onto trail--keep river on right--continue turn following trail--moderate uphill rock --continue on past canoes on left--river on right--travel past pool fence on right/beach on left--stay on trail to PINAWA GOLF COURSE PARKING LOT--TURN LEFT--FOLLOW LOT--to RIGHT TURN on past parking lot entrance/exit staying on Ironwood trail--some rough trail --keep Willis on left/golf course on right--check for traffic--LEFT TURNAROUND AT #211 ONTO WILLIS PAVEMENT--travel on Willis--keeping golf course on left--residential on right--TURN RIGHT AT BARRICADE ONTO BURROWS -- proceed straight towards Vanier---NO EXIT---shopping mall on left/church on right--LEFT TURNAROUND -- returning straight to LEFT TURN ON MASSEY TO BEGIN 2ND COURSE LOOP--same as the first loop--

Sprint: same as described above except 1 loop only!
